If you own a classic car then it will be generally cheaper – and better – for you to get a purpose-built classic-car policy rather than a ‘normal’ policy. However, opinion is strongly divided on what exactly constitutes ‘classic’ – one man’s classic can be another’s old banger after all. Fortunately there are at least some category guides to help you:
Specialist cover from a specialist provider is usually cheaper, not least because it is often tied to a (low) specified annual mileage – sometimes as little as 1,500 miles - the average car in the UK does 12,000. Any miles above this may invalidate your insurance so be very careful. The value of your car can be very variable. As with ‘normal’ cars, its value is very dependent on its condition.
